Red Tails hit screens on January 20th starring Ne-Yo, Method Man, Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Terrence Howard. Word is it’s budget is 58 million dollars, which is high for a movie with a all black production. The movie is is based on the Tuskegee Airmen, the group of pioneering black pilots who fought in the U.S. segregated armed forces during World War II. Back in the day many people thought Women and Blacks could not fly because they were not smart enough and people like the Tuskegee airman and Amelia Earhart were pioneers helping in breaking down the segregation and discrimination when it came to flying and fighting in the armed forces.

According to executive producer, George Lucas, this film has been held up since 1942 and was hard to get into theaters because “it’s an all-black movie. There’s no major white roles in it at all. I showed it to all of them and they said no. We don’t know how to market a movie like this.” Check George’s interview with Jon Stewart talking about his struggles with getting the movie on screen, more commentary and a 7 minute clip from the movie by clicking below. @MinaSayWhat

I must re-iterate, this is the FIRST all black action movie with all major characters being black and a black Director, Anthony Hemingway. It’s budget is unlike any other black production, including Tyler Perry’s. For the sake of breaking boundaries for all minorities it’s important we go out and support this movie. If this movie doesn’t rake in the money you will not see an all black, spanish, asian, any minority movie in a long time. Please go out and support this movie. If it does well there will be sequels. It’s important for equality and a huge step for people who have been oppressed for any reason. Check 7 minutes of the movie below. @MinaSayWhat
