According to sales reports, Magna Carta Holy Grail has debuted at number one on the Billboard charts, selling 528,208 physical units in its first week out. The first week numbers are not including the 1 million units Samsung pre-purchased because Billboard is deciding not to count the digital sales. But outlets like the RIAA has changed their digital rules since Jay’s innovative digital deal. This is Jay’s 13th number 1.
In other news, LL Cool J has opened up about Jay-Z’s recent groundbreaking deal with Samsung, where his new album Magna Carta Holy Grail sold a million records in a day. In an interview with Revolt TV, LL said,
Numbers are Numbers. In the numbers is truth, but in terms of touching the people it’s a little different. For me as an artist I still want to be able to touch the people individually. It still matters to me that people individually went out and bought my record. Although I still think a million sold is a million sold, but for me I like to know that a million PEOPLE bought my record, not a company bought a million copies of my record.”
This sounds personal! Let’s remember, LL clashed with Jay while he was the president of Def Jam because Jay reportedly didn’t want to release the album which sounded a little dated. He once said in an interview, “I’m not anti-Jay-Z. I’m just pro-LL.”
You gotta learn to move with the times LL. You gon learn today. #NewRules
