Chaka Khan Boycotts Florida– The list of artists who are boycotting Florida may have been discredited but Chaka Khan has publicly spoken out to say that she will not be frequenting the state. During an interview with the Huffington Post Chaka Khan was asked how she felt about the Trayvon Martin verdict. She said, “Well the trial, number one was a travesty. Racism is still very much alive and well in this country. It has gone to more of a cerebral state. But it’s alive and well. The new slavery is keeping black men in jail.” When asked if she would be participating in any tributes of prjects for Martin she said, “Well I am boycotting Florida. I had a booking there last week and I cancelled it. But if any tribute comes up I’ll do it. Absolutely.” During the interview she also spoke about her efforts to curb gun violence among youth, especially in her hometown of Chicago.
Amanda Berry Makes First Appearance– The women who was trapped in that house of horrors in Cleveland for 10 years has finally been spotted. Berry popped up on the stage at The Roverfest in Cleveland on Saturday (July 27) to a cheering crowd. After Nelly performed, he called Berry, 27, back to the stage, who received another round of applause. Just a day earlier, Amanda Berry’s kidnapper Ariel Castro pleaded guilty to 937 criminal charges, for his role in holding Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight captive for a decade. South Africa’s Archbishop Desmond Tutu Makes Headlines– South Africa’s Archbishop Desmond Tutu made a bold statement today in support of the LGBT community. He said, “I would not worship a God who is homophobic and that is how deeply I feel about this. I would refuse to go to a homophobic heaven. No, I wouldn’t say sorry, I mean I would much rather go to the other place.” He said that he is just as passionate about the LGBT rights campaign as he is about apartheid. The comments come in the wake of tragic anti-LGBT riots in Russia and Zimbabwe’s President saying that gay men should be beheaded.
iPhone 5S Release Date Sept. 6?– Rumors are swirling that the newest iPhone release date may be among us. According to a report from a German blog the next iPhone is expected to hit the market on September 6th! The site iFun is said to be credible and “to be taken seriously”. Previous iPhones have been released later in September and in October so if this date is valid it would be one of the earlier releases for the brand.
Ted Nugent: Black Americans Should Be Profiled, Like Dogs– Hard rock guitarist Ted Nugent, who insists that he is anti-racist, made some not so anti-racist remarks during a podcast with Nick Cannon. The two were talking about race and race relations when Nugent said that black Americans should be profiled in the same way that different breeds of dogs are considered dangerous. He said, “I think that typically when you see the — I don’t even remember the term they use — but the gangs of blacks lately that have been just been going down the downtown streets and breaking windows on cars. Over and over again, I watch the news, and here’s a rape and here’s a burglary and here’s a murder in Chicago. Twenty-nine shot, 29 blacks shot by 29 blacks. Man Gets Week In Jail For Pooping Pants– 50 year old Ronald Strong wasn’t having a good day when he lost his lunch, inside his pants. Apparently he took the poop in his pants and then went to the bathroom inside of the US Circuit Court of Appeals in Maine. Unfortunately he didn’t do such a good job of cleaning up behind himself because leaving his mess behind led him to a week in jail. The judge who sent him to the slammer included in the 57 page document regarding the case a description of the mess left behind, “vivid comparisons to spaghetti with meat sauce and chunky peanut butter.”
