“Ghetto Tracker” App Helps Rich People Avoid Poor People – A new track called the “ghetto tracker” has been out for 24 hours and has already received enough backlash to have its name officially changed. The app identifies “ghettos” in unfamiliar areas so that users know which locations to stay clear of. Locals rate the parts of town based on safety and the app uses this information to deem areas “ghettos”. After people spoke out against the app calling it racist the name was officially changed to “Good Part of Town”. Critics of the app included a woman offended by the use of the term “ghetto” because of the time she spent in a WWII ghetto and another man who grew up in a rough part of town and managed to get out, graduate college and overcome his situation. Critic David Holmes said, “It’s pretty detrimental to society when we reinforce the idea that poor or crime-heavy areas are places to be categorically avoided or shamed. As if to assume that every person who lives in an area with comparatively high crime or poverty is a criminal, or that these areas are devoid of culture or positivity.”
