 Biggie's Mural in Brooklyn

A Community board in Brooklyn was considering naming a corner “Christopher Wallace Way” after legendary rapper Biggie Smalls.  Some of the board memebres are now blocking it now. One member, Lucy Koten, said “He started selling drugs at 12, he was a school dropout at 17, he was arrested for drugs and weapons charge, he was arrested for parole violations, he was arrested in North Carolina for crack cocaine, in 1996 he was again arrested for assault, he had a violent death and physically the man is not exactly a role model for youth. I don’t see how this guy was a role model and frankly it offends me.” Some board members cited his “misogynist” lyrics and weight as other reasons he shouldn’t be considered.  Don’t understand what his weight has anything to do with, but one of the members, Leroy McCarthy, is in support of the name change and said that Biggie’s weight should not be a factor and that the lyrics were simply a reflection of his street upbringing. McCarthy has the support of “two local churches, a mosque, a nearby block association, several local businesses and more than 1,000 comments from people all over the world who signed an online petition in support of the co-naming.” Seems like this isn’t going to happen. Poor Mrs. Wallace. She must have been very excited for this.  There is already countless murals and paintings of Biggie and i don’t understand what the problem is, but you know the saying. Haters gonna hate. People who don’t get the culture will never understand why Biggie was so important.
