Beyonce is out here shattering iTunes records with her new surprise self-titled album. In the first three days since it’s been released it has sold more than 617K copies in the United States and 828K copies world wide. The project shot to number 1 in more than 100 countries. Beyonce has officially broken Taylor Swift’s first week I-Tunes record who moved 465K copies of her album ‘Red’ in the first week of October last year. Bey is officially the biggest first week female sales act of 2013.
Meanwhile Target said they will not offer her album in stores. Target spokesperson Erica Julkowski told Billboard,
While there are many aspects that contribute to our approach and we have appreciated partnering with Beyonce in the past, we are primarily focused on offering CDs that will be available in a physical format at the same time as all other formats. At this time, Target will not be carrying Beyonce’s new self-titled album Beyoncé.
Makes sense. With CD’s aging out these retailers need to do something to make it clear that you can not just overlook them before they are extinct.
