We knew it was coming! Less than a week after the 2014 Grammy nominees were announced Yeezy used the Phoenix, Arizona stop on his tour as a soapbox for his thoughts on the list. At least he forewarned the crowd and asked for permission before starting the rant, “Can I talk my sh*t again?” was repeated several times. He started talking about his transition from producing into rap 10 years ago when nobody wanted to sign him for ‘Jesus Walks’ despite the numerous platinum records he had. He said he has no desire to be the next Steve Jobs or Walt Disney but that he wants to be the first Kanye West and only made those comparisons in previous interviews to show the possibilities that are out there. When people suggest that he “stick to music” he questions them “Why don’t you stick to not suggesting sh*t to Kanye West.” (That was probably my favorite line of the rant and will definitely be tweeted but I digress…) He talked about his early beginnings in art and the message behind his name before he got into the real meat of his rant:

I’m 36-years-old and I have 21 Grammys. That’s the most Grammys of any 36-year-old. Out of all those 21 Grammys, I’ve never won a Grammy against a white artist. Now let’s bring it back to the Michael Jackson days when he couldn’t get his video to be played because he was ‘urban.’ So when the Grammy nominations come out and ‘Yeezus’ is the top one or two album on every single list, but only gets two nominations from the Grammys…What are they trying to say? Did they think that I wouldn’t notice? Do they think that, someway, I don’t have the power to completely diminish all of their credibility at this moment?…When you see me talking about what people are doing when I say ‘marginalized’, when I say ‘boxed in,’ when I say, ‘hold back,’ when I say people are afraid of the truth, that’s one example right in front of you. And people come to me and they congratulate me on those two nominations…F*CK those nominations! It’s all but only patronizing. It’s only patronizing. Don’t patronize me. I just had to get a couple things off my chest. I would have rather had NO nominations. I’m happy for my brothers that did get nominations. I’m happy for them. And in no way do I want to diminish anyone’s motive. You know when they try to take one statement of mine and try to make me look like a lunatic or look like I’m crazy what they’re trying to do is take the power of the other strong words that came through…It doesn’t matter. Success is imminent. We will win, we will overcome…There’s nothing that you can write, there’s nothing you can make up that wills top 20K people from showing up tonight. Cuz let the headlines tell it you would have thought no one showed up. Haters…There’s dreamers and there’s haters. Only difference is the haters forgot about their dreams or they let someone kill their dreams…So when they make me look stupid that should just make you better that should just make you braver cuz I don’t give a F*** about lookin’ stupid…You can’t be scared to fail.

Despite what you may think about Kanye, this rant is definitely worth checking out. He made some real and very relevant points. You can watch the entire rant below!
