The President also announced “From the 11th to the 13th of December the remains of our beloved Madiba will lie in state…in Pretoria, where he served as the first president of this young democracy; during these days official memorial services will also be held in all of the provinces and regions. FBI Watching US – Marcus Thomas, the former assistant director of the FBI’s Technology Division in Quantico, told the Washington Post that it is possible for people to be watched through their webcam without the indicator light even being on. Thomas said, ““The FBI has been able to covertly activate a computer’s camera — without triggering the light that lets users know it is recording..” He went on to say that this technique has been used to monitor the activity of terrorists for several years. Thomas commented that because of criminals using more advanced methods of technology without traditional computers and their increased ability to hide their locations- it’s necessary to be able to track them. He said “Because of encryption and because targets are increasingly using mobile devices, law enforcement is realizing that more and more they’re going to have to be on the device — or in the cloud… There’s the realization out there that they’re going to have to use these types of tools more and more.” This most recent surge of interest in FBI use of webcams has come about because of an investigation surrounding a man who was threatening to send bombs to universities and airports across the United States.
50 Car Crash – Because of the wintery mess, the westbound lanes of the Philadelphia Turnpike were shut down yesterday after an accident involving 50 cars left one man dead. It all started when a motorist got out of his car after a minor fender-bender. He was subsequently struck by a vehicle, which started a chain reaction of cars colliding. The Philly turnpike was shut down for more than 7 hours while areas of I-95 in Philly and the Platt Bridge were also closed off. PennDOT is warning drivers to take their time and slow down in these dangerous conditions. The snow didn’t seem to effect the Eagles though. They played in the blizzard and beat the Lions 34-20.
