According to reports some members of the Rap Grammy Committee did not think that Macklemore’s album ‘The Heist’ should be considered in the ‘Rap’ category of the awards ceremony. Sources say some thought it was more reflective of a “pop” album because of its pop commercial success. After some debate it was decided to keep the album under “rap.” The group’s manager said,

“If you strip away being influenced by the popularity or by who their fans are or by the amount of radio traction their songs got… and just dissect musically what it is, there’s no question it’s a Hip Hop album.”

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are up for 7 Grammys including Album Of The Year, Best Rap Album and Best Rap Song. Earlier this month, Macklemore admitted himself that he doesn’t think he should win Best Rap Album and that it should go to Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city. The Grammy’s goes down this Sunday at 8pm and Macklemore will be performing.
