Artist M.I.A. has had some serious drama with Roc Nation over the past year and yesterday she announced that she would be parting ways with the label. M.I.A signed with Jay Z’s management label (which operates under Universal Music Group) back in 2012. Since then she has spoken out about the unfair treatment her album ‘Matangi’ received. She described how she had been “blacklisted” and threatened to leak her album when the release date was allegedly pushed back because the content was ‘too positive’ “If Interscope takes longer I can always leak this next week and make a new one by the time they are ready.” There’s also been some drama surrounding the release of her upcoming documentary. The director of the project accused Roc Nation and the labels of making the project difficult to work on and after a trailer he leaked was pulled by management he decided to quit. Looks like M.I.A is trying to start the new year off fresh because she tweeted this about the severed ties:
