News: Nas Illmatic Documentary Premieres At Tribecca Film Festival

Last night the Tribeca Film Festival began and was paired with the premiere of Nas’ documentary ‘Time Is ‘Illmatic’. The film follows the story of the release of Nas’ classic album ‘Illmatic’. He performed for the audience after.  Tribeca co-founder Robert Deniro intro’d the film., which is BIG. DJ Khaled was there, Fabolous, Pete Rock, Kool Herc (who celebrated a birthday yesterday), Eric B, Marley Marl and Alicia Keys played the piano for the veent.  It was a legendary event and big for Nas who is celebrating his 20th Year of Illmatic.  “I was trying to make you experience my life,” Nas says of the album in the film. Later he adds, “It’s still me.” Nas reportedly showed up in a full suit to introduce the documentary and then changed to perform. The film chronicles his life and the creation of “Illmatic.” “Whoever you are,” Nas told the audience, “you can be anything.”

Also, on April 27th a documentary about former Philadelphia Sixers player Allen Iverson will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. 214 Films created a documentary about the retired star titled “Iverson”. The event has already sold out. Iverson promoted via Twitter, “Many have tried to tell it, none have succeeded. Catch the documentary about my real life at the TriBeCa film festival in NYC April 27.”
