During a recent interview with The Guardian, Sean Paul called out artists like Drake and Justin Bieber who he says appropriate dancehall culture. He said that artists today are releasing dancehall-orientated music but don’t credit where it came from and don’t understand it. Paul says that while he’s a fan of Drake he sees some of the patois and bashment hooks used throughout Views as ‘exploitation’. The 43 year old artist is working on an album of his own that he hopes will bridge the gap between authentic dancehall, hip hop, trap, and afrobeat. No word on when his album will drop.
