On Wednesday Chance the Rapper appeared in front of the Chicago City Council to speak out against current plans to build a $95 million police and fire academy. Chance said that the mayor’s plan for the facility doesn’t make sense financially, given the city’s lack of resources. $58 million is expected to come from the sale of existing buildings but there is still a $37 million gap. Chance questioned why the administration would let the project even begin when they don’t have the money to do it. He said that money would be better spent on more necessary services like mental health and schools.
